Orlando Estate Planning Attorney

Estate planning allows men and women to take control of the future by creating basic legal documents. With the right estate plan, you can rest easy, knowing your loved ones are taken care of and that you’ll stay in the driver’s seat even when you can no longer make decisions for yourself. Ready to learn more? Call an Orlando estate planning attorney at Ronald Cutler, P.A. to schedule a meeting. Estate plans are unique, and they should be tailored to the individual clients. Schedule your own, one-on-one consultation so we can learn more about how you see the future.

Building Blocks of an Orlando Estate Plan

Every estate plan is slightly different and should be molded to your unique needs. Nonetheless, there are some common goals people have when it comes to estate planning:

  • Estate distribution. One goal is to identify who will inherit from you. You can use different estate tools, like a will or trust. We can also plan for assets to pass outside the probate process. It’s common to own a home jointly with your spouse, who inherits your share automatically when you die. We can also name beneficiaries to other assets, like retirement accounts. Let’s review what you own and who you wish to leave them to.
  • Medical decisions. Elderly people have greater medical needs. Unfortunately, many can no longer speak to express their wishes. We can create a living will, which lays out what end-of-life care you want (and don’t want). We might also designate a health surrogate who can speak for you when you are incapacitated.
  • Financial decisions. You can create a durable power of attorney for financial matters. This document can give an agent as many (or as few) powers as you like. For example, you might empower an agent to deposit checks and pay bills but not make larger financial transactions. Or you might want to empower them to sell your house, if necessary.
  • Financial planning. We help clients plan for the future by protecting their assets from creditors or creating trusts so they can qualify for Medicaid, which helps pay for nursing home care, among other medical expenses. You should take a deliberate approach to financial planning.

It’s never too soon to create a solid estate plan. The good news is you can always revise it later. In fact, you should call our offices to revise any plan if you have gotten divorced or married, or you had a child. We also recommend revisiting an estate plan every 5 years to ensure it stays aligned with your goals.
